Treatment for Acne Scars

Unfortunately the majority of the human population is forced to grapple with acne pimples and blemishes at some point or another. Although it is a skin problem that hits most men and women in their teenage years, others are afflicted with whiteheads and blackheads later in life. It all just depends on your body, skin type and hormones. Some factors that cause acne are high stress levels, improper skin care, and the over-consumption of dairy products. Needless to say some acne can lead to scarring. However, there is a modern treatment for acne scars that really works.

Actually there is more than one treatment for acne scars that has been proven effective. Regardless, one of these treatments is Microderm Abrasion. This is a procedure that must be done by a licensed dermatologist or certified esthetician. In other words, you will have to see a doctor regarding your acne scars or visit a day spa to set up an appointment. Either way, you can have Microderm Abrasion treatments done to minimize scaring from past acne. The procedure involves time exfoliating particles that are blasted gently onto the facial skin to exfoliate dead skin layers. The cost of this varies.

A second, and more recent treatment for acne scars is laser skin therapy. Again, the goal is to greatly minimize past acne scars by using a laser light that treats the epidermal layers. This type of treatment for acne scars can take a number of sessions and must be done by a dermatologist due to the equipment used. Luckily this new-age acne and pimple treatment has been proven quite successful for scarring.

A couple of ways to address acne scars at home are with topical products. One way to slough off dead skin cells and minimize acne scarring is with products like Retin-A or Salicylic acid. Both aim to exfoliate dead skin cells and reveal a more clean and youthful glow beneath. There is a broad array of topical toners, creams and gels that offer ingredients like Salicylic Acid and Vitamin A, which is found in Retin-A. On a separate note, do not overlook recent treatment gels like Mederma. This is a simple topical gel formula that is applied to the facial scars up to three times each day. It can be acquired from most drugstores and superstore locations. Mederma contains key ingredients that aid with the production of collagen, which in turn helps minimize scarred tissue. This is a rather inexpensive treatment for acne scars that is easy to use in your home, without the assistance of a licensed physician. If you are unsure what treatment is right for your skin, speak with a physician or dermatologist about your acne scars.
