Learning to Live With Irregular Bleeding During Menopause

While all symptoms of menopause are typically unpleasant, the changes in your menstrual flow can be one of the most bothersome. The ultimate outcome, which is life without your period, is something to look forward to. However, getting there may not be a piece of cake! Irregular bleeding is something that almost all women go through at the beginning of menopause. The cycle usually gets lighter at first. Next women will report that they are skipping periods. This is a big sign that menopause is beginning. Finally, there is no bleeding at all. As easy as that process sounds however, it can be a little different in real life.

First, not all women go through those steps. Some women experience continued bleeding. Their flow may increase and they may having longer or never ending periods. This can be quite uncomfortable and annoying indeed. In the past, doctors would simply perform hysterectomies when this occurred. Today however doctors are less likely to do that. Some will perform a D&C or other less serious operations to try to ease the bleeding. There are a few things you can do to help yourself get through the irregular bleeding that happens with menopause. Remember these tips when you are experiencing this difficult symptom.

Be Patient With Your Body
When you are dealing with irregular bleeding, the best thing to do is practice your patience. This may be extremely challenging when you are not feeling your best. Having a positive attitude can literally change your hormones however and make you feel better overall. If you are overwhelmed with stress you will likely have more irregular bleeding. If you are feeling moody try closing your eyes, breathing deep, and counting. As silly as this may sound, it is a great way to help you relax. Your body will thank you for distressing yourself and you might even notice an improvement in your bleeding.

Be Prepared At All Times
One thing to remember is when you are prone to irregular bleeding, you should always be prepared. Always being prepared means that you should carry panty liners or tampons wherever you go. This small tip will save you embarrassment and discomfort. Make sure you check to see if you are spotting each time you use the bathroom to avoid any accidents. Some women even wear a thin panty liner everyday during this time of their lives. That way they don’t ever have to worry about rushing to the restroom during an emergency. You will feel a lot better about it all when you know you are prepared.

See It As Progress
As frustrating as it can be, irregular bleeding is all part of the menopause process. It may be the most challenging part to deal with for some, but it is a part nevertheless. Therefore, if you see it as progress and as something that puts you one step closer to the end of the process, you will get through it with flying colors. Having an open mind and positive attitude will make the entire process go by much more quickly than if you try to rebel against something that is destined to happen.
