Vitamin Based Treatments for Menopause

It’s a fact of life. Every woman experiences menopause. It’s simply something that she cannot escape. In earlier times, most women were quickly given hormone replacement therapy to help battle their menopause symptoms. However, many women today are trying to escape the presence of hormone replacement therapy and try to find their way through the maze of natural solutions to their horrible symptoms. Most women used hormone replacement therapy because many doctors and health care professionals thought it a completely safe way to deal with menopause. Many new studies have revealed, though, that hormone replacement therapy can have some very serious side effects and some very serious long term effects. It can increase the risk of breast cancer and heart attack. It can also cause regular bouts of depression, which increases the risk of suicide. Rather than deal with these possible risk factors, many women have decided to take vitamins to help deal with their menopause symptoms, which provide great relief.

Bone loss is quite common among women who are dealing with menopause. As a result, taking a vitamin D supplement can be essential. You should take the recommended amount of vitamin D both during and after menopause to prevent your bone loss. If you do, you can lower your risk of osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and broken bones. You can increase your intake of vitamin D in a supplement form or you can spend more time outside in the sun. Just fifteen minutes a day of sunshine on your face alone can give you the vitamin D you need. Moreover, you can also get the vitamin D your body requires from some foods like fish, enriched milk, liver, and egg yolks.

Insomnia, fatigue, hot flashes, joint pain, and depression are very common menopause symptoms. Vitamin A supplementation can be added to the diet to help with most of these symptoms. It can also help contribute to strong bones, a healthier immune system to help you fight off diseases, and a general sense of good health. You can get this from a pill or you can change your diet to reflect your vitamin A needs by adding yogurt, milk, cheese, butter, beef liver, chicken liver, green leafy vegetables, squash, yams, pumpkins, apricots, mangoes, carrots, and cantaloupe.

Hot flashes are also a common menopause symptom. You might also want to add vitamin E to your line up to help with this problem. Antioxidants can help protect the body cells. Vitamin E can help give you that protection while offering some wonderful anti-aging benefits as well. You can get vitamin E at your health food store in the form of a supplement or you can include foods like cornmeal, sweet potatoes, raw nuts, cold pressed oils, wheat germ, whole grain bread, asparagus, cereal, salad dressing, and some pasta.

It is important to note that vitamins have been used to treat menopause symptoms for thousands of years. Women who are worried about hormone replacement therapy should think about vitamin supplementation. Talk to your herbalist or a homeopathic doctor to decide the right vitamins and supplements for you.

Anita @ 10:19 pm:

I think people so often overlook simple nutritional changes to help with things like night sweats, hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms. Thanks for the great information. I’ll recommend these dietary changes to my clients.
